Emirates has launched Crypto.com Pay on its website and mobile app, letting eligible UAE residents book flights using their Crypto.com accounts. The airline says transactions are processed through Crypto.com's infrastructure, with fares priced and settled in Emirati dirhams. It's the first direct crypto payment integration for a major carrier in the region.
How it works
Customers who hold a Crypto.com account can select the payment service during checkout on emirates.com or the Emirates App. The option appears alongside traditional methods like credit cards and digital wallets. Emirates isn't holding crypto itself — the settlement happens in dirhams, so the exchange rate risk sits with the customer or Crypto.com's platform.
Eligibility and limits
The feature is only available to UAE residents for now. Emirates hasn't said whether it plans to expand to other markets, but the carrier's home base in Dubai — a jurisdiction that has actively courted crypto businesses — makes the UAE a logical starting point. Crypto.com holds a Virtual Asset Service Provider license from Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority.
Airlines have been slow to accept crypto directly. Most that do rely on third-party processors that convert to fiat at checkout. Emirates' move puts the payment rail closer to the core booking flow. The timing isn't accidental: Dubai has positioned itself as a global crypto hub, and Emirates is the city's flagship airline. The question now is whether other Gulf carriers follow.
