Genius Sports Becomes Settlement Data Supplier for Polymarket and Kalshi

Genius Sports has signed official-data, integrity, and marketing agreements with two rival prediction platforms, Polymarket and Kalshi, on consecutive days this month. The deals make the sports-data company the single settlement data supplier for both platforms.

Back-to-back deals with competing platforms

The agreement with Polymarket was signed on Aug. 4, followed by a similar deal with Kalshi the next day. Both platforms operate in the prediction market space, where users bet on outcomes ranging from sports events to elections. Genius Sports will now provide the official data used to determine those outcomes and settle bets.

That puts the company in a unique position — it's the sole source of settlement data for two platforms that are direct competitors. Neither Polymarket nor Kalshi has disclosed financial terms of the agreements.

What the settlement data role involves

As the settlement data supplier, Genius Sports is responsible for delivering the official, verified results that determine whether a prediction is correct. That includes data integrity services, which help ensure the information feeding the platforms is accurate and tamper-proof. The marketing agreements suggest a broader partnership, though the specifics haven't been spelled out.

For a company that built its name on sports data, moving into prediction markets is a natural extension. But the fact that both platforms signed within a day of each other points to a competitive dynamic — each likely wanted the same reliable data source, and now they share it.

Early returns show up in Q2

Genius Sports published its second-quarter results a day after the Kalshi deal was announced. In that report, the company credited prediction markets with an incremental contribution to margin. That's a sign the new revenue stream is already showing up on the bottom line, even if the numbers behind it aren't broken out separately.

The timing is notable. The Polymarket agreement landed just before the Q2 report, and the Kalshi one right after. Whether those contracts were factored into the quarter's results isn't clear, but the mention of prediction markets suggests the company sees this as a growth area worth highlighting.

Both platforms have faced regulatory scrutiny in the past, and their reliance on a single data supplier could raise questions about concentration. But for now, Genius Sports is the name both sides have chosen.
