How the onchain IDs work
The system issues each registered company a credential stored on a blockchain. That means the ID is tamper-resistant and can be verified by any party without needing to call up a central office. Firms use the credential to access Innovation City's services, from facility entry to digital portals. The free zone says the system replaces older, manual identity checks with a single, reusable digital proof.
Why the free zone built it
Innovation City is one of dozens of UAE free zones competing for international business. Faster onboarding and lower administrative overhead matter when firms are choosing where to set up. By putting credentials onchain, the zone cuts out repetitive verification steps. For the 1,000-plus companies already in Innovation City, the change is mostly invisible. They get a new digital ID automatically. The real shift comes when they deal with third parties — banks, regulators, partners — who can now verify the company's status without leaving their own system. That could shave days off processes like account opening or licensing renewals.
