McDonald's heads into its second-quarter earnings report with a reaffirmed full-year operating margin forecast and a fresh lineup of value deals aimed at winning back budget-conscious customers. The fast-food giant added the Daily Double to its McValue Meal starting July 22, priced at $6 or $7 depending on location, while keeping the $5 Meal Deal and launching a national Caesar Snack Wrap promotion.
Value Menu Expansion
The Daily Double — a double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and special sauce — joins the McValue lineup as the chain's latest attempt to drive traffic. The $5 Meal Deal, introduced earlier this year, remains on the menu. Starting July 21, the Caesar Snack Wrap will be nationally advertised at $2.99, backed by a Caesar Sauce promotion. McDonald's is also offering free medium fries with any $1 purchase in its app every Friday through the end of the year, a move designed to build a weekly habit and boost store visits.
These deals come as McDonald's tries to balance customer demand for affordability with franchisee concerns over rising food and labor costs. The company makes most of its money from franchised restaurants through royalties and rent, which gives it high operating margins. But franchisees operate their own profit-and-loss statements, and they're feeling the squeeze from inflation in ingredients and wages.
Franchisee Pressures and Corporate Margins
Management reaffirmed its full-year operating margin target in the mid-to-high 40 percent range. That's a wide cushion compared with many restaurant chains, but it masks the strain on individual store owners. When McDonald's rolls out aggressive value pricing, franchisees absorb the cost of discounted items. The corporate parent's margin benefits from the franchised model, but the store-level P&L is where the real pressure shows up.
Same-store sales growth can come from higher prices, more transactions, or both. The current value push is meant to tilt comps toward traffic — getting more people in the door, even if each order rings up smaller. Currency fluctuations can also swing reported revenue and margins, so investors focus on constant-currency comparable sales.
What to Watch in Q2
Wall Street expects McDonald's to report Q2 2026 revenue of $7.155 billion and earnings per share of $3.35, according to consensus estimates. The company's ability to hit those numbers will depend on whether its value strategy lifted customer counts without crushing franchisee profits. Same-store sales growth in the U.S. is a key metric; analysts will parse whether traffic turned positive or if the chain relied on price increases.
The Daily Double launch and the Caesar Snack Wrap promotion, which begins July 21, will test whether McDonald's can convert discount-driven visits into sustained traffic growth. For franchisees, the margin math remains tight.
