Shares of Nvidia, Micron, and Sandisk have each climbed more than 1,000% since the start of the AI boom, according to market data. The three companies, which supply the chips, memory, and storage that power artificial-intelligence systems, have become the biggest beneficiaries of the technology's rapid adoption.
The AI Boom's Biggest Winners
Nvidia, the dominant maker of AI training chips, has seen its stock price soar as data centers and cloud providers race to build out capacity. Micron, a leading memory manufacturer, has ridden the wave of demand for high-bandwidth memory used in AI accelerators. Sandisk, known for its flash storage, has benefited from the need for fast, large-scale data storage in AI workloads.
Each company's stock has posted gains exceeding 1,000% since the AI boom began, a period that roughly coincides with the public launch of ChatGPT and the subsequent explosion of generative AI tools. The rally has turned Nvidia into one of the most valuable companies in the world, while Micron and Sandisk have seen their market capitalizations swell.
What Drove the Gains
The surge reflects a market bet that AI will require massive amounts of computing power, memory, and storage for years to come. Nvidia's GPUs have become the de facto standard for training large language models. Micron's HBM3 memory is used in those same systems, and Sandisk's enterprise SSDs handle the data pipelines feeding the models.
Investors have piled into these stocks as companies across industries announce AI initiatives. The demand has been so strong that Nvidia has repeatedly raised its revenue guidance, and Micron has reported record quarterly sales. Sandisk, which was spun off from Western Digital in 2023, has also seen its business accelerate.
The question now is whether the growth can continue. Competition is heating up: AMD and Intel are challenging Nvidia in AI chips, and memory rivals like Samsung and SK Hynix are expanding production. Sandisk faces pressure from cheaper storage alternatives and a potential slowdown in enterprise spending.
Still, the companies are investing heavily. Nvidia is developing next-generation architectures, Micron is ramping up HBM4 production, and Sandisk is pushing into higher-capacity SSDs. The next earnings reports will show if the momentum holds or if the market's enthusiasm has outpaced reality.
