Revolut has started offering its European customers access to private equity, credit, and infrastructure funds. The move expands the fintech company's investment platform beyond traditional stocks and crypto.
New asset classes on the app
Users in the European Economic Area can now invest in a selection of funds that were previously available only to institutional or high-net-worth investors. The new offerings include private equity funds, credit funds, and infrastructure funds, all managed by third-party asset managers.
Revolut says the funds are curated by its investment team and come with minimum investment amounts that are lower than typical institutional thresholds. The company did not disclose the exact number of funds or the names of the asset managers involved.
How the funds work
The funds are structured as Luxembourg-domiciled alternative investment funds. They are available through Revolut's trading app alongside existing products such as stocks, exchange-traded funds, and commodities. Users can buy and sell units in these funds during regular market hours.
Revolut noted that the funds carry higher risk than traditional investments and are not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. The company also said that liquidity may be limited compared to publicly traded assets.
Regulatory context
Revolut holds a Lithuanian electronic money institution license and operates under the European Union's passporting regime. The new fund offerings are regulated by the Bank of Lithuania. The company has been expanding its wealth management features in recent months, including the launch of a robo-advisory service and a premium subscription tier with enhanced trading tools.
The announcement comes as retail investors increasingly seek access to alternative assets. Revolut's platform now covers more than 30 asset classes across its various markets.
European customers can view the new funds in the Revolut app's Wealth section starting this week. The company plans to add more alternative investment options later this year.
