Robinhood Stock Dips 4% Despite Earnings Beat as Crypto Revenue Falls 38%

Robinhood Markets reported a quarterly earnings beat on Wednesday, but the stock still slid 4% in after-hours trading. The culprit? Crypto revenue fell 38% year-over-year to $100 million, a reminder that the trading app's fortunes remain tied to a volatile retail cycle.

Crypto revenue shrinks, but other lines grow

The $100 million in crypto revenue was down sharply from $162 million a year ago. Robinhood didn't break out the exact drivers, but the decline comes as retail crypto trading volumes have cooled from the peaks of 2025. The company has been pushing deeper into crypto with features like staking and a self-custody wallet, but those products haven't yet reversed the revenue slide.

What did offset the drop: stronger revenue from options, equities, and prediction markets. Robinhood has leaned into event contracts — essentially betting on outcomes of elections, sports, and economic data — which have gained traction this year. The company didn't disclose prediction-market revenue separately, but executives noted it as a growing contributor.

Why the stock fell on a beat

Robinhood beat consensus estimates on both revenue and earnings per share. But the market fixated on the crypto line. Investors have long viewed Robinhood as a bellwether for retail crypto demand, and a 38% drop in that segment raises questions about whether the retail trader is stepping back.

The timing isn't great. Bitcoin has been range-bound between $60,000 and $70,000 for most of the quarter, and on-chain data suggests smaller traders are less active. Robinhood's own monthly active users — which the company reports as a metric — will be watched closely when the full shareholder letter drops.

Robinhood has been expanding its crypto offerings in Europe and the UK, where it launched a crypto transfer service earlier this year. The company also recently added support for Solana and Pepe. But those moves haven't yet shown up in the revenue numbers.

The next concrete milestone: Robinhood's investor day, scheduled for September. That's where the company is expected to lay out its long-term strategy for crypto, including whether it plans to launch a spot crypto lending product or deepen its integration with the broader DeFi ecosystem. Until then, the market will be watching the daily trading volumes.
