Strategy Pauses Bitcoin Buys, Boosts USD Reserve by $525M

Strategy has paused its Bitcoin purchases for about a month to rebuild cash reserves, the company announced on July 27. The firm added $525 million to its USD reserve, bringing the total to $3.75 billion. That's enough to cover 2.1 years of its dividend payments.

A deliberate cash accumulation

The move marks a shift from Strategy's recent pattern of aggressive Bitcoin buying. Michael Saylor, the company's chairman, said the pause is meant to strengthen the balance sheet. The $525 million injection into the USD reserve came from operating cash flow and other sources. Strategy now holds $3.75 billion in cash equivalents — a war chest that gives it flexibility.

Bitcoin holdings remain massive

Despite the pause, Strategy's Bitcoin stash is still enormous. The company holds 843,775 BTC in its BTC Reserve, worth tens of billions at current prices. That position hasn't changed during the cash-building period. Saylor didn't say when purchases would resume, but the reserve suggests the company isn't abandoning its Bitcoin strategy — just taking a breather.

Strategy hasn't set a date for resuming Bitcoin buys. The cash reserve gives it room to wait for favorable market conditions or to deploy capital elsewhere. For now, the company is sitting on a pile of cash and a massive Bitcoin hoard. Investors will watch for Saylor's next move.
