0x Project Unveils Cross-Chain API Supporting Payments Across 25+ Blockchains

0x Project launched a Cross-Chain API on Friday that lets developers build seamless payment flows spanning more than 25 blockchains. The tool is designed to reduce the friction of moving value across different networks — a growing pain point as crypto expands beyond single-chain silos. Unlike typical cross-chain bridges that require users to wrap tokens or navigate separate interfaces, the API plugs directly into a developer's existing codebase.

What the API does

The cross-chain API abstracts away the complexity of routing payments through different consensus mechanisms. A single integration can handle transactions on Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, Avalanche, and two dozen other networks — all without manual chain selection. 0x Project says the flow is meant to feel like a unified checkout, similar to how Visa or Mastercard work on the legacy internet, but with settlement on-chain.

The security question

For all the convenience, the API's success hinges on robust bridge security. Cross-chain messaging is still the most targeted attack surface in decentralized finance; exploits on bridges have cost users over a billion dollars cumulatively. 0x Project hasn't detailed exactly which bridge infrastructure powers the new API — but if that layer gets compromised, the entire payment flow could break. The team is betting its reputation on getting security right from day one.

Demand for cross-chain payments has spiked in 2026 as more real-world merchants and stablecoin providers build on Layer 1s and rollups that didn't exist two years ago. A single API that hits 25 chains at once could kill the need for multiple integrations — saving developer cycles and reducing user confusion. But early adopters will be watching for any hiccups in transaction finality or slippage across environments.

The real test comes when the first batch of production apps go live. If the API holds up under real traffic and — more important — no bridge incidents surface, 0x Project could become the default payment layer for multi-chain apps. If it doesn't, it won't matter how many blockchains it supports.
