0x Protocol Opens Cross-Chain API to All Developers

0x Protocol, a decentralized exchange aggregator, made its Cross-Chain API available to all developers on Wednesday. The API lets any developer tap into cross-chain swaps with a single call, giving them access to a dozen bridge providers from day one.

What the API brings

The company said the API is designed to simplify cross-chain transactions. Instead of juggling multiple bridge integrations, developers plug in once and get access to routes from providers like Circle, Chainlink, USDT0, and Relay. Twelve bridge providers are live immediately, with more expected later.

The API handles the complexity of liquidity across different blockchains. 0x Protocol already routes trades on Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon, Avalanche, and others. The new API extends that to cross-chain movements where tokens move from one chain to another.

Cross-chain trading has been a pain point in decentralized finance. Users often need to bridge assets manually, dealing with slippage and lock-up times. 0x's API aims to make that flow invisible — the developer just requests a swap, and the API figures out the best bridge and route.

The timing lines up with a broader push for multi-chain applications. DApps want to let users bring assets from any chain without forcing them through a specific bridge. 0x's move puts that capability inside a standard API call, which could speed up adoption for wallets, aggregators, and lending platforms.

Track record and reach

Since its launch in 2017, 0x Protocol has processed more than $180 billion in swap volume. The company built its reputation as a DEX aggregator — it scans decentralized exchanges and liquidity pools to find the best price for a trade. The Cross-Chain API builds on that same aggregation logic but across chains rather than just within one.

The company did not disclose how many developers are already testing the API, but said it's open and free to integrate. No rate limits or usage caps were mentioned beyond standard API terms.

Developers can start integrating the Cross-Chain API immediately. 0x says documentation is live and the API endpoints are ready for production use. The question now is how quickly DeFi projects will adopt cross-chain functionality as a default feature.
