Aave DAO Weighs Cross-Chain sGHO Launch via Chainlink CCIP

Aave DAO is reviewing a proposal to bring its yield-bearing stablecoin sGHO to other blockchains using Chainlink's cross-chain protocol. The plan, authored by TokenLogic, would start with Avalanche while keeping Ethereum as the single source of truth for vault accounting. The proposal is still in governance review and not yet live.

sGHO's cross-chain rationale

SGHO is a yield-bearing version of Aave's native stablecoin GHO. It lets holders earn yield without leaving the token. But so far it's only lived on Ethereum. That limits its reach in a market where established stablecoins like USDT, USDC, DAI, and USDS already operate across multiple chains. Aave is building broader stablecoin infrastructure beyond just lending, and a cross-chain sGHO is part of that push.

The competition is stiff. USDT and USDC dominate liquidity on most networks. DAI and USDS have deep integrations. For sGHO to gain traction, it needs to be where users are — and that means more than one chain.

Chainlink CCIP as the bridge

The proposal leans on Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol to coordinate deposits and withdrawals. The key design choice: Ethereum stays the main source of truth for vault accounting. That means no fragmented liquidity pools across chains. Instead, CCIP handles the messaging so that sGHO minted on Avalanche is backed by the same vault on Ethereum.

TokenLogic, the firm behind the proposal, argues this avoids the liquidity fragmentation that plagues many cross-chain projects. Users on Avalanche would interact with sGHO natively, but the underlying collateral and accounting remain on Ethereum.

Next stop: governance vote

The proposal is at the planning and review stage, not a finished deployment. Aave DAO members are expected to discuss the architecture before any formal vote is scheduled. No timeline has been set for when the vote might happen or when sGHO could go live on Avalanche if approved.

For now, the community is weighing whether CCIP is the right tool and whether Avalanche is the right first target. The answers will shape how — and how fast — Aave's stablecoin expands beyond its home chain.
