Aave's Monad Market Nears $67M Collateral Cap as Pendle AUSD Tokens Mature

Aave V3's Monad market is holding about 67.4 million PT-AUSD-8OCT2026 tokens as collateral, according to risk adviser LlamaRisk, with the Pendle principal tokens set to mature on Oct. 8. At maturity, each token becomes redeemable for one AUSD, ending its fixed-yield appreciation.

The position is the latest flashpoint in a fast-growing corner of DeFi: tokenized yield positions used as loan collateral. Aave's Monad deployment began with a 20-million-token supply cap, and users filled it by late August. LlamaRisk recommended raising it to 40 million, which also filled within days. The cap now sits at 80 million after another recommendation.

How the AUSD market got to 80 million tokens

Pendle deployed a Dec. 17 AUSD principal-token market last month, and TokenLogic has proposed listing it on Aave. TokenLogic suggested starting with a 20-million-token cap, while LlamaRisk recommended 30 million. That proposal is pending.

The October pool's maturity is a fixed event, but the December pool is thin. As of Oct. 2, the December Pendle pool held just $1.61 million in liquidity, with 904,717 PT outstanding and $44,000 in trading volume since deployment, according to LlamaRisk. The implied yield on the December PT was 5.64% on Oct. 2, temporarily lifted to 6.64% by a one-percentage-point campaign incentive.

Borrowing costs and collateral health

On Oct. 3, TokenLogic said active AUSD loans on Aave jumped 113% to $8.7 million from $4.1 million in 15 days, while user deposits more than doubled to $11.2 million.

In an Aug. 31 assessment, LlamaRisk found that the 18 largest suppliers all carried debt, primarily in USDC, with additional borrowing in GHO, USDe and USDT0. Their median health factor was 1.02 at the time — a thin cushion above liquidation.

Borrowing rates at the snapshot were 4.28% for mUSD, 4.64% for GHO, 5.10% for USDT0 and 6.09% for USDC. The USDe borrowing rate was 6.82%.

What maturity means for the October pool

When the October tokens mature on Oct. 8, holders can redeem them for AUSD. That could change the composition of collateral on Aave's Monad market quickly. Suppliers who borrowed against the PT may need to repay or roll into the December market, which currently has far less liquidity.

The 80-million-token cap on the October PT gives some room, but the December pool's $1.61 million liquidity is a fraction of the October market's size. A wave of redemptions could test whether the December market can absorb new positions.

What to watch next

Aave's community is weighing TokenLogic's proposal for the December PT listing, with the initial cap still undecided between 20 million and LlamaRisk's 30 million recommendation. The December tokens don't mature until Dec. 17, giving the market time to deepen — or not. For now, all eyes are on Oct. 8, when the October tokens become redeemable and the collateral picture on Aave's Monad market starts to shift.
