Alchemy's AgentCard now works on Visa's network, letting AI agents make payments and handle transactions without human help. The integration, announced this week, could open the door to fully autonomous economic activity — software that books a flight, pays for cloud compute time, or subscribes to a service on its own.
What AgentCard Does
AgentCard is designed to give AI agents a payment method. Until now, most AI-driven transactions required a human to approve purchases or enter card details. With Visa access, an agent can initiate and complete a payment directly through the card network. Alchemy says the system handles authentication and authorization automatically, so no person needs to be in the loop.
If agents can pay their own way, a range of new services becomes possible. An AI assistant could negotiate and pay for cloud storage when it runs low. A trading bot could buy data feeds on the fly. The change could reshape how businesses bill for software, subscriptions, and API access — moving from human subscriptions to agent-managed spending.
Visa's Role
Visa is letting AgentCard onto its network, which means the card can be used anywhere Visa is accepted. The company hasn't detailed how it will oversee AI-driven transactions or what liability protections apply. Alchemy said the integration follows Visa's standard security requirements, but gave no specifics on fraud controls for autonomous payments.
The move positions Alchemy at the center of a fast-growing niche: giving AI agents financial autonomy. Other firms are working on similar products, but direct access to the Visa network gives AgentCard a head start in scale.
Alchemy did not say which AI agents or applications would be the first to use the Visa integration, or whether consumer-facing agents would be included. The company plans to share more details in the coming weeks.
