Justin Mateen, a director at American Bitcoin, bought nearly $2 million worth of ABTC stock this week, picking up more than 306,000 shares over two days. The purchases came right after the company reported quarterly earnings and lifted Mateen's total stake to more than 492,000 shares. American Bitcoin is backed by Donald Trump.
The size of the stake
Mateen's two-day buying spree works out to an average of roughly 153,000 shares per day. He now holds over 492,000 shares, up from about 186,000 before the purchases — a jump of more than 60%. The exact price per share isn't disclosed, but the total outlay sits just under the $2 million mark.
For a director, that's a meaningful bet. Insider buys of this size don't happen every day, especially in a crypto-linked company where stock moves can be volatile.
Why the timing matters
The purchases landed immediately after American Bitcoin's quarterly earnings report. That's a common window for insiders to buy — the quiet period has ended, and they have a clear picture of the numbers. Mateen chose to add shares right after the company opened its books, which some investors read as a sign of confidence in the quarter's results.
There's no word yet on whether other executives or board members have followed suit. The disclosure of Mateen's buy is public, but the company hasn't issued a statement about it.
Trump's shadow
American Bitcoin has drawn attention largely because of its political backing. Trump's association gives the company a profile most miners can't match, and it also makes any insider move here more scrutinized. Mateen's purchase adds to that narrative — a director putting real money behind a Trump-linked crypto firm.
Whether that's a statement about the company's prospects or just a personal investment decision, it's hard to say. But the size of the stake is hard to ignore.
