Arthur Hayes Bets Kyle Samani $100,000 That HYPE Will Beat Every Other Top-10 Crypto Through 2026

BitMex co-founder Arthur Hayes has thrown down a $100,000 charitable challenge to Kyle Samani, a partner at Multicoin Capital, wagering that Hyperliquid's HYPE token will outperform every other cryptocurrency currently in the top ten by market cap through the end of 2026. The bet, disclosed publicly this week, pits a prominent crypto OG against a venture-capital heavyweight and puts a very public price tag on the debate over which assets will dominate the current cycle.

How the bet works

Hayes proposed the wager on social channels, offering to donate $100,000 to a charity of Samani's choice if HYPE does not have the highest return among the current top ten tokens from now until December 31, 2026. If HYPE wins, Samani donates the same amount to a charity Hayes picks. The challenge is specifically tied to the tokenomics and ecosystem of Hyperliquid, a decentralized-perpetuals exchange that has gained serious traction this year. Samani hasn't formally accepted yet, but the offer is on the table.

Why HYPE?

Hyperliquid's HYPE token launched in late 2024 and quickly climbed into the top ten by market capitalization, riding a wave of volume from its order-book-based perp platform. Hayes has been a vocal supporter, arguing that Hyperliquid captures the essence of what DeFi derivatives should be — fast, non-custodial, and with real liquidity. The bet effectively forces a binary comparison: either HYPE keeps surging or it gets overtaken by Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, or any of the other established blue chips. The timing also matters — 2026 is an election year in the U.S., and regulatory clarity could shift the ground beneath all crypto assets.

Samani's side

Kyle Samani, a partner at Multicoin Capital, is known for his deep research into DeFi and infrastructure plays. Multicoin has backed projects across the Solana ecosystem and beyond, but Samani hasn't publicly tipped his hand on HYPE versus the field. If he takes the bet, he'll effectively be betting against a token that has already shown remarkable momentum. If he declines, that too says something about conviction. Either way, the exchange has already generated buzz among traders and fund managers who watch both figures closely.

What happens next

Samani has yet to respond with a yes or no. The clock is ticking — the bet, if accepted, would run through year-end 2026, meaning both sides would have to lock in the terms soon. For now, the crypto community gets to watch two influential voices put real money behind their convictions, with charity as the beneficiary. That's about as transparent a signal as markets get.
