AscendEX Suspends Operations, Claims Portal to Open Sept. 5

AscendEX suspended normal operations and customer withdrawals on July 1, 2023. The exchange now says it will launch a claims portal on September 5, letting users review their recorded balances and submit claims, but the portal won't restore withdrawals or guarantee that anyone gets money back.

What the portal does — and doesn't

The claims portal is not a return to normal service. It won't offer trading, deposits, or withdrawals, according to an August 22 notice. Eligible users can register account information and provide supporting documents, but seeing a balance on the portal or having a submission accepted doesn't mean the claim has been admitted. It also doesn't establish legal status or priority.

AscendEX hasn't disclosed a recovery estimate or a timetable for when withdrawals might resume. The notice says the portal is an initial step in a process that could still change.

Recovery path remains unclear

The company attributes its financial pressure to a failed recapitalization path and losses connected to a December 2021 security incident. It says it's exploring rescue, recapitalization, and restructuring options, but gives no assurance that any rescue transaction will be completed.

Notably, no court, administrator, or other authority has opened an insolvency case against AscendEX. The August 22 notice doesn't identify the legal entity entering insolvency, governing forum, office-holder, claims deadline, or asset pool for customer recoveries. That leaves users with more questions than answers about how any distribution might work.

Security warnings and next steps

AscendEX warned users to access the portal only through the official website at ascendex.com directly. It said the exchange will never ask for additional deposits, passwords, private keys, or fees as part of the claims process — a likely warning against scams that often surface during exchange shutdowns.

The September 5 launch is an estimated initial date, and AscendEX said it could change if more technical, security, or legal work is required. For now, users with balances on the platform can only wait for the portal to open and see what balance it shows.
