The quantum threat

Quantum computers work differently than the ones we use today. Instead of bits, they use qubits, which can represent multiple states at once. That lets them solve certain math problems far faster than classical machines. The problem for crypto is that most blockchain networks rely on elliptic curve cryptography, a system that's tough for today's computers but potentially trivial for a large enough quantum one.
