Binance has lowered the bar for its VIP 3 tier, dropping the minimum asset balance from $3 million to $1 million. The exchange also announced that over-the-counter spot trading volume will now count toward overall spot volume at four times its actual value.
VIP 3 threshold cut by two-thirds
The change brings VIP 3 status within reach of a much wider pool of traders. Previously, users needed to hold at least $3 million in assets on the platform to qualify. Now the requirement sits at $1 million. The move appears aimed at encouraging more high-volume traders to climb the exchange's loyalty ladder.
VIP tiers on Binance offer reduced trading fees and other perks. Lowering the entry point for VIP 3 could boost trading activity and deepen liquidity on the exchange.
OTC trades get a 4x volume multiplier
In a separate but related change, Binance will now count over-the-counter spot trading volume at four times its actual value when calculating a user's overall spot volume. OTC trades are typically large block deals executed outside the public order book. By giving them a multiplier, Binance makes it easier for institutional and high-net-worth clients to reach higher VIP tiers without having to split their orders onto the regular order book.
The move could also help Binance attract more OTC business by making those trades more rewarding for the platform's fee structure.
What the changes mean for traders
For traders hovering just below VIP 3, the lower asset requirement is a direct benefit. They can now qualify with a smaller balance. For those already at higher tiers, the OTC multiplier may help them maintain or upgrade their status more efficiently.
The adjustments come as crypto exchanges compete for liquidity and trading volume. Binance's rivals have also tweaked their fee schedules and tier requirements in recent months. The exchange did not say whether these changes are permanent or part of a limited-time promotion.
Binance has not announced a specific end date for the new terms. Traders looking to take advantage of the lower VIP 3 threshold or the OTC multiplier should check the exchange's official fee schedule for the most current details.
