Bitcoin Cash Slips 4% as Open Interest Jumps on Long-Heavy Positioning

Bitcoin Cash traded at $275.10 on Tuesday, down 4.11% on the day, as open interest in BCH futures climbed nearly 10%. The token is now sitting below every major moving average bar the 50-day SMA, and positioning data from Binance shows traders leaning long.

The drop puts BCH in a technical spot where the only nearby support is the 50-day line. Everything else — the shorter-term and longer-term averages — has been left behind. Rising open interest alongside a falling price is a combination worth watching; it means new contracts are being written even as spot weakens.

Longs are crowded on Binance

Binance accounts are the most visibly skewed toward long exposure, according to the positioning data. That matters because a long-heavy book on one exchange can amplify a move in either direction. If spot keeps drifting lower, those positions face pressure. If it stabilizes, the same crowd can fuel a bounce.

What's less clear is whether the open interest increase is fresh directional risk or hedges against spot holdings. The data doesn't say, and it's not worth guessing. What's observable is the combination: price down, contracts up, retail-facing exchange leaning long.

The moving-average picture

Sitting above only the 50-day SMA isn't a comfortable place for a token that spent stretches of this year above its shorter averages. BCH has given up those levels quickly. The 50-day line is the last one holding — and it's the one traders tend to watch first when everything else has already caved.

A close below it would leave BCH with no major moving average underneath it. That's a technical statement, not a prediction. It simply describes where the chart sits after Tuesday's move.

Why the open interest number stands out

A near-10% jump in open interest on a down day is not routine. It suggests traders are actively adding exposure rather than stepping back. Combined with the long skew on Binance, the setup looks crowded on one side. Crowded trades have a habit of resolving sharply, though nobody knows the direction in advance.

BCH has had quiet stretches this year. Tuesday wasn't one of them, at least in the derivatives market.

What to watch

The 50-day SMA is the line in the sand. If BCH holds it, the long-heavy positioning on Binance looks less exposed. If it breaks, the question becomes whether those longs add or fold — and the open interest figure will be the first place that shows up.

For now, BCH is down 4.11% at $275.10, below every major average except one, with futures traders betting heavily on the upside.
