Bitcoin climbed 4.2% and clawed its way back inside its large ascending channel on the 4-hour chart, sidestepping a breakdown that would have opened the door to a measured move down to $70,000. The bounce puts BTC directly below its first major resistance level at $82,800, with a second horizontal ceiling waiting at $84,000.
Two walls above
The $82,800 level marks the top of the previous bear market's big bear flag, which makes it more than an arbitrary line on a chart — it's a price where sellers have shown up before. Above that, $84,000 acts as the second horizontal barrier. BTC is going to need to chew through both before the rally has room to run.
On the 4-hour chart, though, there's some reason for optimism. Bitcoin broke up through a small descending trendline, and the relative strength index did the same, snapping a downward trend that had held for about a month. That kind of dual breakout — price and momentum together — is often the setup for upside over the rest of the week.
The weekly candle is the real story
The current weekly candle opened outside the ascending channel. That's not a dramatic breakdown in itself; the previous candle simply left no room for the new one to open inside. What matters is where this week's candle closes.
If it closes outside the rising channel, the next candle could rise to test and confirm the channel's bottom as new resistance. Alternatively, BTC could drop to $80,000 or the low $70,000 region. A close back inside would mark the move as a fakeout, which would be the more bullish outcome for the channel structure.
Stochastic RSI is flashing a split signal
Short-term momentum is getting stretched. The 4-hour and 8-hour Stochastic RSI are beginning to look overbought. On the daily chart, however, the indicator lines have only just started rising off their bottom limit — a setup that has historically been a productive signal for price.
The weekly Stochastic RSI is the cleaner directional tell. If the lines head straight down through the 80.00 level, it favors a drop toward $70,000. If they bounce at 80.00 instead, the upside rally could extend.
What to watch into the weekly close
The next few sessions are about confirmation, not prediction. The weekly close will settle whether the channel break was real or a head fake. Until then, the $82,800 and $84,000 levels are the ones that matter most, and the Stochastic RSI on the weekly chart is the indicator that could tip the scales either way.
