Bitcoin Faces August Curse After July Rally: History Shows 4 Straight Red Months

Bitcoin climbed from under $58,000 to roughly $65,000 in July — a double-digit gain that snapped a brutal June. But the relief may be short-lived. Historical data from CoinGlass shows August has been a losing month for four consecutive years, and analysts are already flagging the pattern.

The August curse

Analyst Ali Martinez points out that every August since 2022 has been in the red. The drops weren't small: 14% in 2022, 11.3% in 2023. CoinGlass confirms the streak — four straight negative Augusts. Zoom out further, and the picture gets worse. Only 3 of the last 12 Augusts have been positive for Bitcoin. The exceptions were 2013, which saw a 30% gain, and 2017, which surged 65%. Those were outlier years during major bull runs.

July's weak bounce

This July's rally of about 14.5% looks decent on paper, but analyst Rekt Capital calls it "far weaker" than previous rebounds. The context: Bitcoin dropped over 20% in June. A 14.5% bounce doesn't erase that loss. Rekt Capital notes the pattern of progressively weakening support — each recovery is less powerful than the last. That's a warning sign for anyone hoping August breaks the streak.

What the data shows

The numbers are stark. Four straight red Augusts. Only 3 green ones in 12 years. The two big green Augusts — 2013 and 2017 — came during explosive bull markets that most traders don't see repeating this year. The current rally, while welcome, hasn't reclaimed the highs from earlier in 2026. The question now is whether Bitcoin can defy a pattern that's held for nearly half a decade. No one's calling a bottom yet.
