Bitcoin ownership among US adults has officially overtaken gold ownership, according to a new report from the Nakamoto Project. At the same time, a prediction market is pricing a 76.5% probability that Bitcoin will reach $67,500 by the end of July 2026 — just nine days from now. The twin data points offer a snapshot of how deeply crypto has penetrated mainstream portfolios.
The Nakamoto Project findings
The report, released this week, marks the first time Bitcoin has surpassed gold in a head-to-head ownership survey of US adults. The Nakamoto Project didn't disclose exact percentages, but the shift reflects years of growing retail and institutional adoption. Gold has long been the traditional store of value; Bitcoin's edge here signals a real change in how Americans think about wealth preservation.
The $67,500 target
The prediction market gives Bitcoin a better-than-three-in-four shot at hitting $67,500 by July 31. That's a tight window — just over a week. The implied probability has climbed steadily this month as the price has held above $60,000. Whether the market is right or wrong, the bet itself shows that traders see a clear path to that level in the near term.
What the numbers mean
Ownership data and price predictions are different things, but together they paint a picture. More people hold Bitcoin than gold, and a significant chunk of the market expects a specific price milestone within days. That doesn't guarantee anything, but it's a far cry from the days when crypto was dismissed as a fringe asset.
The prediction market will settle at the end of the month. If Bitcoin hits $67,500, the contract pays out; if not, it expires worthless. Either way, the Nakamoto Project's ownership finding is a concrete milestone that won't reverse when the clock runs out.
