Bitcoin is going nowhere fast. The largest cryptocurrency is stuck in a range with a floor near $83,000 and a ceiling around $85,000, still bruised from a weekend dip to $80,000 and two rejections — first at $87,000, then at $85,000 — that knocked it back to $82,800 before buyers showed up again. Bears tried to break it below $82,500 over the weekend and couldn't.
That flat tape hasn't stopped the rest of the market. Hedera is up 20% and trading near $0.12. Chainlink gained more than 11% in a day to clear $15, and Stellar put up a similar double-digit move to sit around $0.23. Ethereum climbed back above $2,700 for a gain of over 3%.
The weekend that set the range
Bitcoin's current box was carved out in about 12 hours. After touching $80,000, it added more than $7,000 and punched past $87,000 for the first time since late January. Sellers met it there. A second rejection at $85,000 sent it to $82,800, and that's roughly where it's been chopping since.
The failed push below $82,500 matters more than the failed push higher. It tells you where the buyers are, even if it doesn't tell you much about where this goes next.
Where the money is actually moving
The action is in large-cap alts, not in BTC. XRP is above $1.50 after a 2.3% gain. Cardano is holding above $0.25 following a 4% pump. CRO, AAVE and ICP are among the bigger gainers outside the top tier.
Solana, Binance Coin, TRON and Dogecoin are all slightly green — barely worth mentioning, but green is green. Total crypto market cap ticked up to $2.860 trillion. Bitcoin's own market cap sits at $1.680 trillion, which puts dominance at 58.6%. Read that number twice: the alt rally is real, but it hasn't loosened Bitcoin's grip on the market.
Zcash and NEAR miss the boat
Not everything is participating. Zcash and NEAR Protocol have dumped by as much as 9%, the two clear laggards on a day when most of the board is up. If you're holding either, the divergence is the story — capital is rotating into LINK, XLM and HBAR, and it's coming out of somewhere.
What to watch
Two levels, one direction each. A clean break above $85,000 would put the $87,000 rejection back in play; losing $82,500 would reopen the $80,000 weekend low. Until one of those gives, Bitcoin is a range trade and the altcoin tape is where the movement lives.
