Bitcoin.com has integrated USDU, the UAE's first central bank-registered US dollar stablecoin, into its self-custodial wallet. The token is now available to retail users, a shift from its previous institutional-only distribution.
A regulated dollar coin
USDU is registered with the UAE's central bank, meaning it operates under official oversight. That's a distinction in a market where many dollar-pegged tokens aren't directly supervised by a national monetary authority. The registration gives USDU a regulatory stamp that most stablecoins can't claim.
What changed for users
Before this integration, USDU was only accessible through institutional channels. Now anyone with Bitcoin.com's wallet can hold, send, and receive it directly. The wallet is self-custodial, so users keep control of their private keys — a design that pairs a regulated asset with individual ownership.
Stablecoins are the bridge between fiat and crypto, but their regulatory status has often been murky. A central bank-registered stablecoin on a self-custodial wallet combines compliance with user autonomy. For crypto users in the UAE and beyond, it offers a dollar-pegged option with clear oversight — a combination that's still rare.
The move suggests stablecoin issuers are looking past exchange listings to reach everyday users directly. It also gives Bitcoin.com a regulated dollar token in a region that's been building out its digital asset framework. The integration is live now, and USDU is in the hands of retail users for the first time.
