Bitcoin's Next Record High Could Take Until 2027, Analysts Say

Bitcoin is trading about 35% below its record peak of $126,000, and two analysts think it could take until mid-2027 to get back there. Analyst Root projects a new all-time high by June 2027, while Philarekt sees Bitcoin briefly clearing $126,000 around the same time, with the full cycle peak arriving in 2028. Both timelines hinge on market cycle patterns that have already been bent out of shape by spot ETF approval.

Two paths to a new high

Root's case rests on how long Bitcoin historically needed to recover from a bear market bottom. Past cycles took roughly two years to set fresh highs, but that rhythm broke last cycle after spot ETFs changed who was buying. Root points out that the 2015, 2018, and 2022 cycles all moved above their scaled all-time-high levels by around day 350, and the 2018 cycle got there near day 150.

Philarekt's projection is more specific. Using an ascending channel that's been in place since 2021, Philarekt sees Bitcoin briefly clearing $126,000 around mid-2027 before the real peak lands in 2028 at $170,000. The path isn't a straight line — it implies a grind higher, not a vertical move.

This drawdown is milder than past ones

The current bear market has been gentler than its predecessors. Bitcoin fell roughly 52% from its October 2025 peak to a 2026 low near $60,000. Previous bear markets erased 77% to 85% of Bitcoin's value. That shallower drop means Bitcoin only needs about a 2x move from its bottom to set a new record, compared to much larger recoveries in earlier cycles.

That's the good news. The bad news is embedded in the math of diminishing returns. The 2021 to 2025 move between peaks was about 83%. A $170,000 top would deliver roughly 35% from today's levels. Each cycle is producing a smaller multiple, which makes the upside case less exciting than it sounds.

Doubt about the channel

Philarekt's ascending channel is clean on a chart, but it's built on thin evidence. Each boundary of the channel rests on only two touches. Two points make a line, not a trend. That's a real limitation for anyone treating the pattern as a roadmap.

Binance Research adds another caution: in four of five past cases, similar rebounds eventually retested their lows. A move back toward $60,000 can't be ruled out even if the longer-term direction is up.

The four-year cycle isn't what it was

Willy Woo has argued Bitcoin may be abandoning its four-year rhythm in favor of a longer cycle tied to traditional finance. Spot ETF approval brought in a different class of holder — one that doesn't necessarily follow crypto-native boom-and-bust timing. Root also flags rising rates and their effect on the business cycle as a risk to the timeline. If rates stay higher for longer, the easy money that fueled past recoveries gets harder to find.

For now, the next concrete checkpoint is whether Bitcoin can build a base above its 2026 low. If it does, the day-350 analog puts a scaled all-time-high retest somewhere in the first half of 2027 — right around when both analysts expect the record to fall.
