Bitcoin is trading around $65,000 after recovering from late-June lows, but the rally keeps stalling at a defined resistance zone. Sellers have capped every attempt to push higher, and the next few sessions could decide whether the trend flips or the price slides back to support.
The resistance wall
On the 4-hour chart, Bitcoin recovered from the $61.8K-$62.3K support zone but has repeatedly struggled to reclaim resistance at $64.8K-$65.4K. The daily chart shows an even bigger ceiling: the $65.8K-$66.8K area, which has capped previous recovery attempts. The price remains below declining moving averages, a sign the broader market structure is still bearish.
Right now, a clean breakout above $65.4K would weaken that bearish scenario and give buyers a shot at the larger $65.8K-$66.8K zone. But if BTC stays under $64.8K-$65.4K, another rejection is possible, and the $61.8K-$62.3K support box comes back into play.
On-chain pressure
On-chain data shows why the upside is so hard to push through. Realized prices for 1-3 month holders sit around $67K, and for 3-6 month holders they're near $72K. Both are above the spot price, meaning those recent buyers are holding unrealized losses. That cohort tends to sell into strength, so their average entry price becomes a natural resistance level. The $67K mark is the first hurdle; $72K is the next, if BTC ever gets there.
Macro backdrop
The market is also waiting on macro and geopolitical clarity. US-Iran tensions and developments around the Strait of Hormuz have kept traders on edge, and upcoming US inflation data could swing sentiment either way. Until those factors resolve, Bitcoin may remain vulnerable to sharp, liquidity-driven swings within its broader range.
What to watch
The immediate test is whether Bitcoin can close a daily candle above $65.4K. That would open the door to the $65.8K-$66.8K resistance area and potentially flip the short-term picture. A failure, though, could shift attention to the $57.8K-$60K demand region, with the $61.8K-$62.3K support as the first stop on the way down.
