Bitget Launches Reality Platform for Tokenized Stocks in DeFi

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has rolled out a new platform called Reality, designed to bring tokenized stocks into decentralized finance markets. The move marks the company's latest push to bridge traditional equities with blockchain-based trading.

What Reality does

Reality lets users trade tokenized versions of publicly listed stocks directly within DeFi protocols. Instead of buying shares through a broker, investors can hold and swap digital representations of those stocks on-chain. Bitget says the platform aims to offer a permissionless, 24/7 market for equity exposure, without the usual gatekeepers.

Tokenized stocks aren't new — several projects already offer them — but Bitget is betting its exchange infrastructure and existing user base can give Reality an edge. The company hasn't detailed which stocks are available at launch or which blockchain the tokens run on.

Why tokenized stocks matter

Traditional stock trading is limited to exchange hours and often requires a brokerage account. In DeFi, tokenized stocks can trade around the clock and be used as collateral in lending protocols or combined with other crypto assets. That flexibility appeals to traders who want to move between crypto and equities without leaving the blockchain ecosystem.

But the model carries risks. Tokenized stocks rely on oracles and custodians to ensure the digital token reflects the real share price. If the bridge breaks, the token can lose its peg. Regulators in several jurisdictions have also questioned whether tokenized equities amount to unregistered securities offerings.

Bitget's bigger play

Bitget has been expanding beyond spot and derivatives trading. Reality joins its existing suite of products including copy trading, launchpad, and a DeFi wallet. The company says it wants to make traditional finance assets accessible to crypto users without forcing them to leave the decentralized environment.

Whether Reality gets traction will depend on liquidity, the range of stocks offered, and how well it navigates regulatory scrutiny. For now, the platform is live and users can start trading.
