BitMine Immersion Technologies (NYSE: BMNR) spent roughly $73 million buying 42,197 ether over the past week. The purchases pushed the company's total stash to 5,742,237 ETH — about 4.8% of all ether in circulation. BitMine, an Ethereum treasury firm chaired by Fundstrat's Tom Lee, has been steadily accumulating since its pivot to a pure-play ETH strategy.
A $73 million weekly buy
The buys were spread across multiple transactions, according to on-chain data. At current prices, the 42,197 ETH represents one of the largest single-week acquisitions by a publicly traded company this year. BitMine didn't disclose the exact timing or counterparties, but the purchases were completed by July 19.
Ethereum treasury strategy
BitMine positions itself as an Ethereum treasury company — it holds ETH as its primary corporate asset and generates yield through staking and DeFi. The firm's total holdings now exceed 5.7 million ETH, making it one of the largest known institutional holders of the asset. The company has said it views ether as a long-term store of value and a productive asset.
Tom Lee's involvement
Tom Lee, co-founder of research firm Fundstrat Global Advisors, chairs BitMine's board. Lee has been a vocal bitcoin and ethereum bull for years. His presence on the board lends credibility to the company's strategy, though he doesn't manage day-to-day treasury operations. BitMine's management team executes the buys.
What the holding means
With 4.8% of the total ETH supply, BitMine's position is large enough to move markets if it ever decided to sell. But the company has shown no signs of reducing its exposure. Instead, it continues to add on dips. The latest purchase comes as ether trades in a range this month, down from its June highs but still up year-to-date. BitMine's accumulation signals a long-term bet on the network's growth.
