Bitway (BTW) hit an all-time high of $1.90 on October 13 and was trading near $1.88 by Monday afternoon, up 7% on the day. The token has climbed 60% over the past seven days and 170% over 30 days, a run that stands out against a flat-to-lower Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Bitcoin is trading around $83,500, up 0.43% in 24 hours but still below the $84,000–$85,071 resistance zone. Ethereum slipped between 0.5% and 2% over the same window. The divergence has traders watching whether BTW's move is a one-off rotation or the start of a broader bid for Bitcoin-compatible infrastructure.
What's driving BTW's run
Bitway's rally puts a spotlight on Bitcoin-compatible chains, though one token's 170% month doesn't prove broad demand for the sector. There's no new fundamental disclosure in the facts — no listing, no partnership, no protocol upgrade. That leaves the move looking like momentum and thin float rather than a repricing on news. The timing isn't great for chasing: Bitcoin itself hasn't confirmed a breakout, and the macro calendar is about to get loud.
Bitcoin's technical picture is stuck
Bitcoin remains above its 7-day SMA ($82,871.93), 50-day SMA ($81,142.48), and 200-day SMA ($72,169.70), so the longer trend is intact. But the MACD histogram is near zero, meaning momentum hasn't confirmed a breakout. Key support sits at $82,000–$82,500; a break there exposes $81,300 and then $80,000. On the upside, a sustained move above $85,000 could put $86,363–$87,000 back in view. For now, price is coiled between support and resistance with no decisive signal.
CPI lands Tuesday — and the setup is fragile
US CPI data is due on October 14. A softer reading could ease rate concerns and give risk assets room to run. A hotter print could pressure them, especially with Treasury yields, oil above $105 a barrel, ETF outflows, and weakness in Asian technology already weighing on sentiment. That's a lot of crosscurrents for a market that can't clear $85,000.
Bitcoin Hyper pitches a different Layer 2 bet
Elsewhere in the Bitcoin-adjacent space, Bitcoin Hyper (HYPER) is marketing itself as the first Bitcoin Layer 2 built around the Solana Virtual Machine, with SVM integration. The project advertises low-latency Layer 2 processing, a decentralized canonical bridge for BTC transfers, and low-cost transaction execution. It's currently priced at $0.0136875, with total funds raised over $33.1M. Bitcoin Hyper also advertises staking with a high APY of 60%. High-yield staking offers are common in early-stage L2 projects and carry their own risks; the advertised figure is not a guarantee.
The immediate test is Tuesday's CPI print. If it comes in soft, Bitcoin gets another shot at the $85,000 ceiling and BTW's rally may find company. If it runs hot, the $82,000 support shelf becomes the level to watch — and a 170% monthly gain in a small-cap token is exactly the kind of position that gets sold first when risk comes off.
