Breez today unveiled Glow, an open-source progressive web app that lets people turn Bitcoin into stablecoins and send them over Lightning. Built with Bitcoin Spark, the app is live on Apple and Android app stores, and the company says the combination of partnerships and technologies means Bitcoin has finally crossed a threshold.
Passkeys, not seed phrases
Glow skips the seed phrase entirely. Instead, users log in with the Passkey standard, which relies on device-level cryptography. Breez still promises self-custody and full cryptographic control over funds, but without the 12-word recovery sheet that scares off mainstream users. For a wallet, that's a notable shift — the industry has spent years telling people to write down their keys, and Glow is betting that a biometric prompt is enough.
Stablecoins and Lightning, together
The app lets users send stablecoins from their Bitcoin balance, with the Breez SDK handling the asset exchange in the background. It supports native Lightning payments and customizable Lightning addresses, so someone can share a handle like [email protected] instead of a long invoice. Through a partnership with Flashnet, Glow can move USDT and USDC across most networks and blockchains. The wallet also integrates contacts for saving Lightning addresses, which sounds basic but is a missing piece in most crypto payment apps.
USDB and the yield angle
Glow's native stablecoin is USDB, issued by Brale Inc., a money services business licensed in more than 45 states. Brale claims compliance with the GENIUS Act standards, a nod to the regulatory framework that's been taking shape in the U.S. USDB is deployed via the Spark protocol, making it Bitcoin-native and compatible with Lightning. Holders earn up to 6% APY from Flashnet's decentralized exchange profits — a yield that's baked into the token rather than paid out through a separate app.
Open source and easy onramps
Glow is MIT-licensed, free, and open source, meaning developers can inspect and modify it through the Breez API and SDK. That's a deliberate contrast to the closed, custodial wallets that dominate the app stores. For getting Bitcoin in, Glow integrates onramps from Cash App and MoonPay, so new users can skip the exchange dance and fund the wallet directly. Users can also swap BTC to USD value at will and earn sats during the process.
The app is out now. Whether it actually pulls in a mainstream crowd remains to be seen — but for a Bitcoin wallet, offering passkeys, Lightning, and a regulated stablecoin in one package is a combination nobody has quite shipped before.
