Cardano Rises 7.8% as Van Rossem Hard Fork Goes Live, Bridge Exploit Contained

Cardano's ADA jumped 7.8% in 24 hours, trading around $0.1747 with an intraday high of $0.1774, as the network completed the Van Rossem hard fork. The upgrade moves Cardano to Protocol Version 11, bringing cheaper and faster Plutus smart contracts, updated cost models, and stronger node security. The recovery comes alongside whale accumulation, though a separate exploit on the Wanchain bridge siphoned roughly $9 million in NIGHT tokens — a hit that didn't touch Cardano's own Layer 1.

Van Rossem goes live

Van Rossem is the first Cardano hard fork approved entirely through on-chain governance. Delegated Representatives (DReps), Stake Pool Operators (SPOs), and the Constitutional Committee all voted on-chain to push it through. That's a milestone for the network's decentralized decision-making process. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson urged investors to keep their eyes on long-term development, pointing to the tech improvements and the spread of work across multiple companies now sharing the Haskell-based node software. Input Output Global (IOG) says it's doubling down on research and innovation.

Whale activity picks up

Large holders have been accumulating ADA during the recent weakness, according to the data. That buying pressure helped push the price up despite the broader market jitters. Trading volume hit about $435 million over the 24-hour period — a solid number for a mid-cap coin on a recovery day. The accumulation suggests at least some big players see the Van Rossem upgrade as a long-term positive, not just a short-term catalyst.

Bridge exploit contained

The Wanchain bridge suffered a security exploit that resulted in the theft of roughly 515 million NIGHT tokens, worth about $9 million. The attack hit the bridge infrastructure, not Cardano's Layer 1 blockchain. That distinction matters: the exploit didn't reveal any flaw in Cardano's consensus mechanism or its core protocol. Still, it's a reminder that cross-chain bridges remain a weak point in the ecosystem. The affected exchange or platform hasn't commented on recovery plans yet.

Next resistance ahead

ADA's next big test is the $0.20 level — a psychological resistance that's held for weeks. If the whale accumulation continues and the Van Rossem upgrade delivers the promised cost savings on transactions, the market might take another run at it. For now, the network is focused on the new governance model and the shared development work. The timing of the exploit wasn't ideal, but it didn't derail the upgrade. The question is whether the momentum can carry through the $0.20 barrier.
