Charles Hoskinson Steps Back From Public Eye, Blasts Cardano Foundation as 'Worst Mistake'

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson is pulling back from public appearances and social media, saying he needs time to reflect. In a series of posts on X, Hoskinson laid out his reasons: relentless personal abuse online, frustration with the Cardano Foundation's performance, and a firm belief that boosting ADA's token price isn't his job.

A retreat fueled by online abuse

Hoskinson documented the level of hostility he faces. An analysis of 130 replies to one of his posts found 35 were hostile or abusive. He said the abuse has become too heavy to ignore. Starting immediately, Hoskinson said he will stop making public videos and doing interviews. He plans to continue working on Midnight, a privacy-focused sidechain, but away from the camera and the comment threads.

Foundation under fire

Hoskinson did not mince words about the Cardano Foundation, the Swiss-based entity responsible for supporting the ecosystem. He called it the worst mistake of his career and accused it of lacking accountability. He called for an exodus from current management, new leadership, and a fresh roadmap for Cardano. 'Cardano is not a protocol. It's the people behind the protocol,' he wrote, signaling that the community, not the foundation, defines the project.

Price and DeFi struggles

ADA trades near 18 cents after a sharp 24-hour drop. Hoskinson explicitly rejected any responsibility for the token's market performance. Chasing token price, he said, is a losing game. Meanwhile, the Cardano DeFi ecosystem is showing strain. TapTools, a prominent analytics platform, announced it is winding down. The broader ecosystem, once seen as a top Ethereum competitor, faces questions about developer retention and user activity.

What happens now

Hoskinson's withdrawal raises an unresolved question for Cardano: who will carry the public messaging and rally the developer community? The foundation, under his critique, hasn't announced any leadership changes. The roadmap he wants replaced remains the current one. For now, Cardano's most visible promoter goes silent, while the network's native token and its DeFi projects fight for momentum.
