The company is betting that its stablecoin, USDC, will become the default currency for these autonomous interactions — a move it says could reshape how digital economies work.

What the Agent Stack does

The Agent Stack is a framework that lets developers build AI agents capable of sending, receiving, and managing USDC without human oversight. Circle envisions a world where machines pay each other for data, compute power, or services — all settled in a stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar. The stack includes APIs and smart-contract templates that handle the messy parts of authentication and compliance, so the AI can focus on the transaction.

Circle didn't name any specific partners or early adopters at the summit. But the company's pitch is straightforward: if AI agents are going to act on behalf of people or businesses, they need a way to pay and get paid. USDC, already used in crypto trading and remittances, is Circle's answer.

Why USDC for machine payments

Stablecoins have mostly been a tool for humans — traders, freelancers, people sending money across borders. Circle wants to change that. The company argues that USDC's programmability and low transaction costs make it a natural fit for machine-to-machine payments. An AI running a cloud workload could buy extra processing power on the fly, or a logistics bot could settle a shipping fee instantly.
