CME Group Adds ENA Reference Rates to Crypto Benchmark Suite

CME Group is adding Ethena's ENA token to its crypto benchmark lineup, with reference rates that go live today across London, New York and APAC trading sessions. CF Benchmarks will administer the new products, the exchange said.

How the rates work

The rates provide a standardized daily price for ENA, updated across three separate trading windows. London kicks off the session, New York follows, and APAC closes the loop. That means an institutional trader in Tokyo can see the same ENA price that someone in Chicago just used.

Why benchmarks matter

A reference rate isn't just a number on a screen. It's the foundation for funds, settlement, and risk management. Without it, a fund would have to cobble together its own pricing, which introduces friction and inconsistency. CME's benchmark gives ENA a single, trusted point of truth.

CF Benchmarks' role

CF Benchmarks will handle the calculation and distribution of the ENA rates. The firm is already a licensed benchmark administrator in the UK and Europe, so this fits its existing operations. It's the same type of infrastructure that sits behind other digital asset benchmarks.

CME hasn't said whether ENA futures or options are next. For now, the reference rates give the market a solid baseline. What gets built on top is anyone's guess.
