Coinbase will suspend trading for six cryptocurrency pairs tomorrow, August 6, following a routine review of market quality and trading activity. Five of the six pairs have already been placed in limit-only mode — a step that typically precedes a full delisting. The affected pairs include LSETH-ETH, MINA-EUR, GRT-GBP, and MASK-GBP. Two additional pairs were not named in the exchange's announcement.
Limit-only mode
Limit-only mode means users can only place limit orders — no market orders — and existing orders may still be filled. It's a common intermediate step exchanges use before a full suspension, giving traders a window to adjust positions. Coinbase moved five of the six pairs into this mode ahead of the August 6 cutoff. The exchange did not specify which pair was left out of that transition.
The affected pairs
Four of the six pairs were explicitly listed: LSETH-ETH, MINA-EUR, GRT-GBP, and MASK-GBP. The remaining two were not disclosed in the announcement. The pairs span different base currencies — ETH, EUR, and GBP — suggesting the review wasn't limited to a single market. LSETH, a liquid staking derivative, and MINA, GRT, and MASK are all smaller-cap tokens relative to the majors.
Why exchanges delist
Coinbase said the suspension follows a routine review of market quality and trading activity. Exchanges regularly evaluate pairs for liquidity, volume, and compliance. Low activity or deteriorating market quality can trigger removal. The exchange didn't cite any specific violation or regulatory pressure — just standard housekeeping. The timing, however, comes as crypto markets have seen a broad pullback in trading volumes this year.
What happens next
Trading for all six pairs will be halted on August 6. After that, the pairs will no longer be available for trading on Coinbase. Users with open orders in those pairs should close them before the deadline. The exchange hasn't said whether it will relist any of the tokens on different pairs or if the delisting is permanent. For now, the clock is ticking on those six order books.
