CoinShares Launches First Bitcoin Mining ETF on Deutsche Börse Xetra

CoinShares has launched its first Bitcoin mining ETF in Europe. The fund, which is UCITS-compliant, began trading on Deutsche Börse Xetra this week. It tracks a rules-based index of publicly listed Bitcoin mining companies, giving European investors a regulated way to bet on the mining sector without holding crypto directly.

Trading on Xetra

The ETF is listed on Xetra, Deutsche Börse's electronic trading platform. That means it's available to retail and institutional investors across Europe through their usual brokers. UCITS compliance is key here — it allows the fund to be marketed and sold across EU member states under a single regulatory framework. CoinShares already runs a range of crypto-linked ETPs, but this is its first dedicated mining ETF.

The index behind the fund

The ETF doesn't pick mining stocks by hand. Instead, it follows a rules-based index that selects and weights publicly listed companies whose primary business is Bitcoin mining. The exact methodology isn't public in the announcement, but the approach is meant to give broad exposure to the sector while avoiding single-stock risk. That matters because mining stocks can be volatile — they're tied to both Bitcoin's price and operational costs like electricity and hardware.

A first for Europe

While Bitcoin mining ETFs have existed in North America for a while, this is the first such product in Europe. The timing is notable: Bitcoin's hash rate has been climbing, and mining companies have been consolidating after the 2022 downturn. CoinShares is betting that European investors want a piece of that action through a familiar, regulated wrapper. The fund started trading this week. European investors now have a regulated way to get exposure to Bitcoin mining stocks.
