Ctrl Wallet is going dark tomorrow. The non-custodial wallet, which supports over 2,500 blockchains and claims more than 600,000 users, will stop sending, receiving, swaps, and dApp connections on August 3, 2026. No exact cutoff time or timezone has been given. After that date, the only function left in the app will be recovery-phrase export — and the app may stop opening entirely soon after.
What stops on August 3
Starting tomorrow, Ctrl Wallet will no longer process any transactions or connect to decentralized applications. Users who still have funds in the wallet need to act before the deadline. The company hasn't said how many users are actively affected, but the wallet claims a base of more than 600,000. The shutdown is total: no swaps, no sends, no dApp connections. The only thing left is the ability to export your 12- or 24-word recovery phrase.
How to migrate safely
To move funds, users can export their recovery phrase and import it into a compatible wallet. Alternatively, they can transfer assets to an address they control before the deadline. Phantom, one likely destination, warns in its support docs that unsupported derivation paths may prevent expected accounts from appearing — even with a valid recovery phrase. So users should test the import with a small amount first. The recovery phrase should only be entered inside the setup flow of the chosen wallet, never in response to calls, messages, or websites.
Scam warnings
Ctrl Wallet is blunt: there is no official migration token, no compensation airdrop, and no refund. Any offer claiming otherwise is a scam. The same goes for any message asking for your recovery phrase. The company says scammers are already targeting users, and the only safe place to enter the phrase is inside a wallet's setup flow.
Past incidents
The shutdown comes after a rough year for wallet security. In March 2026, Coinbase's withdrawal flow raised alarms when users reported unexpected behavior. And in November 2025, a top-ranked Chrome wallet was caught stealing seed phrases. Ctrl Wallet's closure isn't a hack — it's a planned shutdown — but the timing isn't great for user trust. The company hasn't explained why it's shutting down.
The deadline is August 3, 2026. After that, the app may not even open. Users who haven't exported their phrase by then could lose access to their funds permanently.
