The raise underscores a boom in demand for AI chips — a trend that crypto miners should watch closely as it tightens an already strained semiconductor market.
The funding round
The exact amount raised wasn't disclosed, but the valuation jump — from roughly $1.5 billion to an estimated $6 billion — reflects investor appetite for specialized AI processors. DeepX designs chips optimized for machine-learning workloads, a segment that has seen explosive growth as tech giants and startups alike race to deploy generative AI models.
Mining operations rely on the same fab capacity and supply chains that produce AI chips. When AI chip demand surges, it pushes up prices for wafers and advanced packaging, and can delay delivery timelines for mining ASICs. This isn't a hypothetical — several mining firms have already reported longer lead times and higher per-unit costs this year.
The timing isn't great. Bitcoin's next halving is still months away, but margins are already thinning for many operators. Any additional cost pressure from the semiconductor side could accelerate consolidation in the mining sector.
