Denmark Ice Hockey Signs With Concordium in First Fully Token-Locked National Team Deal

Danmarks Ishockey Union (DIU) has named Concordium as the Official AI Partner of the Danish National Ice Hockey Team. The partnership, which will launch during the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland, is centered on blockchain-based digital identity and artificial intelligence infrastructure. It marks the first time a national team has signed a deal paid entirely in a native protocol token — and locked at the protocol level for 12 months.

What the deal includes

The collaboration covers two core initiatives. First, a Verified Fan Programme that uses zero-knowledge proof technology to let fans prove their identity or age without revealing personal data. Second, an Agentic Commerce pilot that will test autonomous AI agents handling ticket sales, merchandise, or other transactions. Concordium branding will appear on the Danish national team's helmets and jerseys, and the company gets category exclusivity across digital assets.

How the payment works

The full partnership fee was settled in Concordium's native CCD token. A 12-month lock-up is enforced at the protocol level, meaning the tokens can't move until the lock expires. DIU will maintain full self-custody of the digital assets throughout the arrangement. That structure — a national team taking payment in a crypto token and holding it under its own control — is a first for any international sports federation.

Why hockey, why now

Denmark has become a regular host for IIHF events, with four championships in eight years: men's tournaments in 2018 and 2025, women's in 2022 and 2026. The 2025 IIHF World Championship drew a cumulative live television audience of 215 million viewers and 25.6 billion event impressions across 155 territories. Those numbers give DIU a global stage to showcase blockchain applications in sports, starting with the Verified Fan Programme at this year's tournament in Switzerland.
