Dogecoin is stuck in a deepening rut. Persistent selling pressure and a growing supply overhang have pushed the cryptocurrency into a firmly bearish position, with both short-term momentum and the longer-term trend signaling more losses ahead.
Why the Supply Overhang Matters
Dogecoin’s price is being dragged down by an excess of coins available for sale. Unlike Bitcoin, which has a fixed supply cap, Dogecoin issues billions of new tokens every year — roughly 5 billion annually — as mining rewards. That steady stream of new supply, combined with holders looking to cash out, has created a persistent overhang that weighs on any attempt at a rally. Traders say the market simply can’t absorb the constant selling pressure.
The result: every bounce gets sold into. Even when broader crypto markets show signs of life, Dogecoin struggles to hold gains. The token has been trading in a narrow range near recent lows, unable to break above key resistance levels.
Momentum Turns Decisively Bearish
Short-term momentum indicators have flipped negative. The relative strength index (RSI) sits below 40, a zone that typically signals bearish control. Moving averages have also turned against the coin: the 50-day moving average recently crossed below the 200-day moving average, a pattern known as a “death cross” that often precedes extended downtrends.
On the longer timeframe, the picture is no brighter. Dogecoin’s weekly chart shows a series of lower highs and lower lows stretching back months. The trend line from the 2021 peak remains firmly downward, and the token has lost more than 90% of its all-time high value. Without a catalyst — a major exchange listing, a celebrity endorsement, or a shift in market sentiment — the path of least resistance appears lower.
What’s Next for Dogecoin
For now, the selling pressure shows no sign of easing. Large holders, or “whales,” have been steadily reducing their positions, according to on-chain data. Meanwhile, retail interest has faded: social media mentions and trading volumes are well below the frenzy of 2021.
The next major test for Dogecoin will be whether it can hold support around $0.05, a level that has acted as a floor in recent months. A break below that could open the door to a drop toward $0.04 or lower. On the upside, the token would need to reclaim the $0.07 area to suggest any meaningful reversal.
Traders are watching for any sign of a change in momentum — a surprise endorsement, a new use case, or a broader crypto rally. But with the supply overhang and bearish trends firmly in place, the immediate outlook remains grim.
