Drake placed the bet on Argentina to win during regular time, including stoppage time. A win would have paid out over $5 million in crypto. Instead, Spain's victory meant the entire stake was lost.
Another gambler bet $1.23 million on Argentina to win the World Cup when odds were around 10%. That bet would have yielded a profit of over $10 million. It didn't hit either.
The whale who bet on Spain
Hours before the final, a whale created a new Polymarket wallet and bet $1.95 million on Spain at 59.1% odds. The bet paid off — the whale walked away with $1.35 million in profit. The timing and size of the wager raised eyebrows, but Polymarket didn't flag any irregularities.
