BitSpider, an Estonian crypto service provider, has submitted an application for authorization as a crypto-asset service provider under the EU's MiCA framework. The company was formally registered by the Estonian Financial Supervision Authority on July 1, 2026, after submitting its application on June 30. The move comes as BitSpider looks to revive its crypto point-of-sale (POS) platform, which it had paused while awaiting regulatory clarity.
A POS platform built for multiple blockchains
BitSpider's Crypto POS system isn't your typical tap-to-pay card. It supports tap-and-PIN payments using an NFC card, as well as QR code payments from self-custody wallets. The card-and-PIN method works across multiple blockchains and stablecoins — a contrast to earlier tap-to-pay crypto cards that were limited to Bitcoin. The platform accepts Bitcoin, Ethereum, stablecoins, ERC-20 tokens, and TRC-20 tokens, and provides on-screen payment confirmation.
The hardware includes a dedicated terminal with a pre-installed app, receipt printer, 2D scanner, and contactless acceptance. A cloud-based merchant management application ties it all together. Payment data handling is compliant with PCI DSS, and transactions undergo AML, KYC, and CTF processing. Through partner settlement arrangements, merchants can accept crypto at the point of sale and receive fiat currency in their bank accounts.
BitSpider designed the concept in 2024, and similar tap-and-PIN crypto card products entered the market in 2025. The company's approach stands out by supporting multiple chains from day one.
Why BitSpider paused and what comes next
BitSpider paused new client onboarding pending the MiCA authorization decision. If authorized, the company intends to reconsider a return to the POS market, initially focusing on its non-custodial, wallet-based payment method. Any card-based functionality would be evaluated separately and introduced only within appropriate regulatory permissions.
Any revived offering would be limited to crypto-assets permissible under MiCA, including MiCA-authorised e-money tokens such as USD Coin (USDC). That means no wild altcoins — just the regulated stuff.
BitSpider's current business
BitSpider OÜ is an Estonian crypto-asset service provider offering fiat-to-crypto and crypto-to-fiat conversion with transparent FX pricing and a non-custodial model. It supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Polygon, TRON, and USDC via SEPA. The company has been operating while waiting for the MiCA nod, but the POS platform remains on ice.
The Estonian regulator's decision on BitSpider's MiCA authorization will determine whether the company can proceed with its POS ambitions. For now, the firm remains in a holding pattern, with new client onboarding paused.
