Ethereum is changing hands at $2,433.89 on Binance spot, stuck just under a resistance band where its 20-day and 50-day moving averages converge near $2,547 to $2,552. The two averages sitting that close together gives the market a thick ceiling to clear, and so far buyers haven't managed it.
The $2,547–$2,552 problem
That cluster isn't one line on a chart. It's two. When the 20-day and 50-day averages bunch into the same narrow zone, any rally into it tends to run into sellers who bought higher and want out, plus traders who see the band as an obvious spot to fade a move. ETH has to chew through both before the next leg up can even be argued about.
The size of the gap matters too. Ethereum is trading roughly $115 below the lower edge of that band. That's not a huge distance in percentage terms, but it's enough that a single green candle doesn't settle anything. Price needs to close above the band, not just poke into it.
Momentum is completely flat
The MACD histogram for Ethereum is reading exactly zero. Flat. That means the fast and slow moving averages behind the indicator are sitting on top of each other, with no measurable separation in either direction.
Zero histogram readings don't happen on every chart every day. When one shows up alongside price pinned under resistance, it tells you the market has stopped leaning one way. There's no momentum building in either direction right now. It's a waiting room, not a trend.
What would actually change the picture
Two things matter from here. First, a daily close above $2,552 — the top of the band — would put Ethereum on the other side of the averages and give the flat MACD a reason to start separating. Second, a rejection at the band keeps the current setup intact, with price range-bound between spot and the averages.
Until one of those happens, the chart is describing indecision rather than a breakout or a breakdown. The averages are the line in the sand. ETH is below them, momentum is neutral, and the next meaningful signal comes from whichever side price closes on.
