Ether.fi has carved restaking out of its core staking product, launching a separate vault called weETHs that can route a portion of deposits to the Symbiotic protocol. The move gives users a distinct track for restaking exposure, separate from the platform's vanilla weETH staking product, and comes after a market incident that sharpened concerns about how restaking risk is managed.
A Vault Built for Separation
The weETHs vault, officially named weETHs (Super Symbiotic), is designed to delegate part of its deposits to Symbiotic, explicitly separating restaking from standard staking. Early numbers show the vault displaying an APY of 3.50% and a total value locked of about $17.7 million. That's a modest footprint next to Ether.fi's broader operations, but it signals that users are starting to engage with the separated track.
The idea is to make exposures cleaner to understand and monitor. Instead of bundling restaking into the main staking product, Ether.fi now offers a dedicated route where the restaking component is visible on its own.
Codifying Safety in Code
On July 14, 2026, Ether.fi published a security upgrade titled 'Safe Staking, From Doctrine to Code,' moving core safety guarantees into immutable contract invariants. The upgrade was audited by Certora, whose combined report for Ether.fi's core contracts, including the Priority Withdrawal Queue, is publicly posted.
The platform also pointed to a stress test: Ether.fi redeemed 542,792 ETH, or 19.6% of its TVL, over 33 days without missing a withdrawal. That operational record is part of the backdrop for the new vault's launch.
The Rating and the Context
Independent risk assessor Credora assigned Ether.fi's weETH an A+ rating in report REP-ETHERFI-20260617-V1, citing an annualised Probability of Default of approximately 0.098%. The rating covers the core staking product, not the new weETHs vault, but it speaks to the platform's overall risk posture.
The restaking risk debate intensified after an April 18, 2026 incident involving Kelp DAO's rsETH bridge, which led to large liquidations and a liquidity squeeze across related markets. Attackers used bridged rsETH as collateral on Aave during that incident. The separation of product lines and the codified invariants are direct responses to that kind of scenario, aiming to make risk more transparent and easier to track.
What to Watch
Key signals going forward include weETHs adoption, ongoing assurance, risk tracking, and operational performance. The vault's early TVL and displayed APY show some user interest, but whether the separated track gains real traction remains an open question. Ether.fi's broader footprint dwarfs the new vault for now, and the test will be whether the cleaner structure holds up under stress.
