FlyEdge, a B2B platform that tokenizes airline loyalty value, has opened a public preview in 12 languages. Launched August 20, the preview lets airlines and travelers verify the entire on-chain process, from token issuance to redemption, on StreamChain, an EVM-compatible mainnet built specifically for aviation loyalty.
Why StreamChain
FlyEdge chose StreamChain over general-purpose blockchains because the network was founded by GW Lee and designed with aviation loyalty in mind. That focus means airlines keep control over token issuance, minting, burning, and transfers through a token factory. It's a deliberate answer to breakage concerns — the unspent loyalty points that hit an airline's bottom line.
What travelers see
The traveler side is deliberately low-friction. Accounts are non-custodial smart accounts secured by passkeys, and network fees are sponsored. No seed phrases, no gas tokens. The preview includes four features: PASSPORT for wallet access, SHOW for aviation live streams, LAST CALL for seat experiences, and LOUNGE for token conversion and airline services. Each is meant to demonstrate a different way loyalty value can move.
Verified, but with caveats
FlyEdge has verified 100 pilot assets and activities on-chain, cross-checked via a public blockchain explorer. But this is not a commercial rollout. The preview is an invitation for airlines, travelers, and media to test the system. And the company is careful not to overpromise: tokenization doesn't erase airline liabilities, and accounting treatment stays with each airline and its auditors.
FlyEdge is not the first to try this. Air France-KLM ran a 'Miles on Blockchain' proof of concept back in 2017-2018 that showed real interest but also exposed the business challenges in loyalty. John Kim, FlyEdge's founder and CTO, is betting that a purpose-built chain and a testable public preview will push past those hurdles. The tagline is 'Unlocking the True Value of the Skies.' Whether airlines actually move beyond testing will depend on how this preview holds up under scrutiny.
