ForumPay, a crypto payment gateway, has integrated its infrastructure with Shopify. The move means merchants on the e-commerce platform can now accept major cryptocurrencies at checkout while receiving the settlement in the fiat currency they choose. It's a direct tap into Shopify's merchant base, which spans millions of stores worldwide.
How the integration works
The system sits between the customer and the merchant. A shopper pays in bitcoin, ether, or another major coin, and ForumPay converts it to the merchant's preferred fiat currency — dollars, euros, pounds, whatever they pick. The merchant never has to touch the crypto side unless they want to.
That removes one of the big friction points for small businesses: price volatility. The merchant sees a stable amount land in their account, and the customer gets to spend their crypto directly. ForumPay says it's 'the leading crypto payment gateway,' a claim the company has leaned on since picking up Best Crypto Payment Services Provider at the Global Crypto Awards in 2025.
Why Shopify merchants might care
Shopify has been a battleground for crypto payment providers for years. Big names have come and gone, and merchants have learned to be picky about which gateways actually deliver. ForumPay's pitch is simple: accept the coins customers already hold, avoid the exchange-step hassle, and keep the books in familiar currency.
The integration also gives existing Shopify stores a way to test crypto demand without reworking their checkout flow. It's a plugin-style addition, not a rebuild. For a merchant who's been curious about crypto but wary of the complexity, that lower barrier matters.
ForumPay hasn't said which specific coins are live on Shopify day one, only that 'all major cryptocurrencies' are supported. Merchants who want to flip the switch can start now, and the company is likely to publish a list of supported assets and settlement currencies as stores begin signing up. The real test will be whether the integration holds up under real checkout traffic — and whether shoppers actually use it.
