Grayscale Launches First Zcash Spot ETF, ZEC Hits New Highs

Grayscale has launched the first Zcash spot exchange-traded fund, the asset manager said in a press release this week. The ETF marks the first time investors can gain direct exposure to ZEC through a regulated, publicly traded vehicle. The news sent the token to fresh highs as the broader crypto market resumed its upward climb, with Bitcoin breaking above $80,000.

First-mover status

Grayscale's Zcash ETF is the first of its kind in the U.S. market. While several firms have filed for and launched Ethereum and Bitcoin funds over the past two years, the ZEC product is a new addition to the roster, and it lands at a moment when the asset's price is already running hot.

The launch follows a quiet stretch for Zcash-specific investment products. It gives institutional investors a way to buy and sell ZEC through their existing brokerage accounts without holding the token directly.

ZEC rallies as Bitcoin climbs

ZEC prices jumped to new highs on the news, according to market data from the time of the announcement. The gains came alongside a broader market move, with Bitcoin crossing the $80,000 threshold for the first time in weeks. The two rallies aren't necessarily linked, but the ETF news gave ZEC its own catalyst to break out.

Grayscale's expanding lineup

The ZEC fund is part of a wider expansion effort from Grayscale. The asset manager has been building out its suite of single-asset crypto funds for years, moving beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum into smaller tokens. The press release notes the ETF is the latest step in that effort.

Grayscale has not said when trading begins on the new fund or given a ticker symbol yet. That hasn't stopped the market from moving on the news.
