Grayscale's Zcash ETF Begins Trading on NYSE Arca as ZCSH

Grayscale's Zcash ETF started trading on NYSE Arca on Aug. 25, under the ticker ZCSH. The listing puts a regulated, exchange-traded path to ZEC, the privacy-focused cryptocurrency, on a national stock exchange for the first time.

The fund, which has existed for nine years, moved off over-the-counter quotes where shares often sold at steep discounts — sometimes as deep as 55% — to the value of the underlying Zcash.

Nine Years in the OTC Shadows

For nearly a decade, Grayscale's Zcash product was a niche vehicle. It traded only over the counter, meaning buyers had to contact broker-dealers directly to get a quote. That fragmented market produced wide spreads and occasional gaps between the share price and the net asset value.

At times, those gaps were enormous. Discounts reached as high as 55%, meaning investors could buy the fund's shares for roughly half the cost of the ZEC they held. The new exchange listing changes how those shares move.

What the Exchange Listing Changes

On NYSE Arca, ZCSH trades continuously during market hours. Investors can buy and sell through standard brokerage accounts, with real-time prices and transparent bid-ask spreads. The move also means the fund is subject to the exchange's listing rules, including disclosure and market-making requirements.

The listing gives Zcash exposure the same infrastructure used by traditional equities and the broader family of crypto ETFs that have already reached national exchanges. For the fund's holders, the practical difference is that they can now execute trades the way they would any stock.

The Discount Question

The persistent discount was the fund's most visible problem. OTC trading limited liquidity and made it harder for market makers to arbitrage price differences. With an exchange listing, that dynamic changes — but not instantly. The first day of trading will not be enough to tell whether the gap fully closes.

How quickly ZCSH trades near its net asset value is the open question. The shares began trading on Aug. 25, and the market's reaction in the coming sessions will show whether the exchange format does what the OTC market couldn't.
