Grvt has completed its first GRVT token buyback, purchasing and burning 1.1 million tokens on the open market. The burn permanently removed close to 1% of the token's circulating supply at the time of purchase. It's the first of five milestones the self-custodial trading platform has scheduled ahead of the planned Grvt 2.0 launch at the end of November 2026.
A monthly burn, with no promises attached
The Foundation's token issuer says it intends to run further buybacks on a monthly basis. But it's careful to add that these are entirely at its discretion, with no predetermined purchase amount and no guaranteed schedule. That language matters: nothing obliges the issuer to keep buying, and the size of any future burn is open-ended.
Execution runs through an independent partner. Purchased tokens go to a designated burn address and are removed from circulation for good. Anyone who wants to check the work can use a public buyback dashboard that records tokens bought and burned, the percentage of circulating supply involved, cumulative burns, and on-chain transaction hashes.
What the token actually is
GRVT launched in July 2026. It confers no ownership, no profit rights and no other economic rights, so the buyback is a supply gesture rather than a shareholder return. Grvt itself was founded in 2022 and runs on its own zero-knowledge chain, currently supporting perpetual futures across roughly 200 cryptocurrency and real-world asset markets. The platform is aiming to list more than 1,000 markets by the end of December 2026.
The product slate behind the rebrand
The buyback milestones sit alongside a crowded release schedule. Grvt Earn is due at the end of October 2026, offering yield backed by tokenized assets with target yields of up to 11%, derived from underlying cash flows including interest, premiums and invoice-related income. Those targets aren't guaranteed.
November brings Stable Funding Perps — perpetual futures tied to commodities, stocks, foreign exchange and indices, with planned zero trading fees and once-daily funding — as well as Yield as Margin, which lets eligible Grvt Earn balances back trading positions while still accruing yield, subject to product terms and risk parameters. Grvt 2.0 then consolidates all of it into a single self-custodial app at the end of November, together with a new name, visual identity and the company's 2027 roadmap.
Idle capital, and the pitch to fix it
The company's own research gives the product push some context. A survey of Grvt traders earlier in 2026 found six in ten respondents kept at least a quarter of their capital on the platform idle, and many said they moved funds elsewhere chasing yields of 8% or more.
Hong, co-founder and CEO of Grvt, said the token is an important part of the ecosystem and welcomed the issuer's buybacks as a sign of long-term commitment to the community. He also argued traders shouldn't have to choose between putting capital to work and keeping it ready to trade, framing Grvt 2.0 as a single self-custodial balance that supports both.
The next concrete checkpoint is Grvt Earn at the end of October. The first monthly buyback after this one carries no date and no size — the issuer has left that to its own discretion.
