Hashdex to Delist DEFI Bitcoin ETF After August 17

Hashdex is pulling the plug on its DEFI Bitcoin ETF. The fund will stop trading on NYSE Arca after August 17, with a full wind-down to follow. The move removes one of the few spot Bitcoin ETFs available through a regulated U.S. exchange-traded product.

Delisting set for August 17

The DEFI Bitcoin ETF's last day on NYSE Arca will be August 17. After that, the fund ceases trading entirely. Hashdex hasn't said why it's shutting the fund down, but the timeline is clear: investors have just over two weeks to sell or move their holdings before the delisting takes effect.

Spot Bitcoin exposure through a regulated wrapper

The fund offered direct spot Bitcoin exposure inside a traditional ETF structure. That meant investors could buy and sell Bitcoin exposure through a standard brokerage account, without dealing with crypto exchanges or custody themselves. It was one of a handful of such products approved by the SEC for U.S. markets.

What happens after the delisting

Once trading stops, Hashdex will begin winding down the fund. That typically means liquidating the underlying Bitcoin and distributing proceeds to remaining shareholders. The exact wind-down schedule hasn't been announced, but the process usually takes a few weeks. Investors who hold shares after August 17 will have to wait for the cash payout.
